John R. Hauenstein, President

JOHN R. HAUENSTEIN earned his Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree from The Pennsylvania State University.  He gained an extensive background in the design and integration of building systems that included acoustical, architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical/lighting components. 

Before forming his own consulting practice in 1994, he was employed by Cerami & Associates for eight years.  There, as a Senior Consultant, he worked on projects such as the multi-constituent
Rose Building at the Lincoln Center for the Performing.  During his tenure at JRH Acoustical Consulting, he has continued to foster his reputation in a variety of project types.  He recently completed work on the Helena, one of the first “Green” high-rise residential projects in New York City.  In the commercial realm, he has provided consulting advice to the architect design Levis Strauss & Company’s New York showrooms.  Adhering to the client’s desire for a flexible, open plan environment, he worked with the architect and audio-visual consultant to optimize the use of display fixtures, architectural elements, and masking sound, to help create a space that works well both functionally and acoustically.  Some of his other projects include the following:

Besides serving the commercial and institutional sector, Mr. Hauenstein has also become distinguished through his involvement in many high-end residential design projects throughout
New York City and Long Island.

As a troubleshooter of noise/vibration complaints, Mr. Hauenstein has earned a valued reputation among both commercial and residential building management companies. He is also experienced in conducting environment noise studies and well as noise monitoring.  He has also successfully completed the certification course in Community Noise Enforcement at Rutgers University.

Mr. Hauenstein started his career with Parfitt/Ling, an architectural/ engineering firm. His experience with and knowledge of other engineering disciplines, has given him the background and expertise required for his acoustical work. He is also a member of the Acoustical Society of America, the Institute of Noise Control Engineering, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
